The Funky Plucks

The Funky Plucks open the 22nd annual festival on our Main Stage.  Four, young Nelson student musicians,  the Funky Plucks have been playing and improvising their way through the practise rooms of Selkirk College and the barrooms of the West Kootenays since early 2012.  Jon Perry, originally from Ottawa, plays piano, pedal steel guitar and hand built guitars.  He has also gained a significant reputation as a guitar and amplifier engineer among his fellow students.  Elias Nelson, originally from Argentina, set aside his flamenco guitar to study electric and double bass at Selkirk.  Kieran Jarvis holds the beat behind the kit, riding the edge of fine timing and spontaneous funk bounce.  Carl Ross rounds out the quartet with alto saxophone.  Together, the Funky Plucks deliver a fresh, intense expression of jazz, funk and rock.
